Primus closing on return

Portsmouth defender Linvoy Primus is edging closer to a first-team return.



The imposing centre-back has not made an appearance for Pompey this season after undergoing knee surgery during the summer. But he has now turned out twice for the reserves and may soon receive a recall to the side.

Last weekend Pompey were defeated 3-1 by Arsenal, and looked far from assured at the back. They were also without Sol Campbell, who formed an impressive partnership with Primus last season.

"I don't take any pleasure out of seeing my team-mates get results like the one at Arsenal," Primus told the club's official website. "The defence tends to come under scrutiny at these times, but it is really the team that defends - not just the back four with the keeper.

"So hopefully things will change. The last thing I want is to get back into the team because of other players' performances. I really hope that doesn't happen.

"I want to get back through different circumstances, on my own merits, rather than the team not getting a result."
