Glazers rebuff Man Utd debt claim

The Glazer family have dismissed accusations that debts at Manchester United are spiralling out of control.

A report from the Manchester United Supporters Trust says interest payments have risen to £100m a year on the loan the Glazers took out to buy the club.

"The story is inaccurate," said a spokesman for the Glazer family. "Nothing has changed.

"The debts continue to be comfortably serviced by the business, which is performing better than ever."

The spokesman added: "As always there have been substantial funds for the manager to purchase players over the summer."

United bought Anderson, Nani, Owen Hargreaves and Carlos Tevez in pre-season for a combined cost believed to have exceeded £50m.

The Glazers completed a £790m takeover of United in 2005 and they recently denied they were going to sell the club after reported interest from buyers in China and Dubai.

The Manchester United Supporters Trust is set to officially unveil its report on Monday.
