Mido impressing at Riverside

Mido impressing at RiversideEgypt striker Mido has been attracting plenty of praise since arriving at Middlesbrough.

The player scored on his debut at Fulham and backed that up at the weekend with another strike in the 2-2 draw with Newcastle United.

"He is going to be even better as the games go on because he has not played for a while," said midfielder Julio Arca, himself an impressive performer in the draw with Newcastle.

"But even then, he has shown how good he is. He is going to get more pace and more confidence and then people will start to realise how good he is going to be for us."

team fighting

Manager Gareth Southgate is equally optimistic that Mido can be a key player this season.

"Mido is the future and so are the other players we have brought in," he said. "He has already been a bit of a talisman for us, not only scoring the two in two, which is the perfect start for any striker, but his response in the dressing room - the way he has got the rest of the team fighting."

Mido joined the club from Tottenham Hotspur where he struggled for regular first-team football last season. The player himself said: "I've not got a point to prove, I play to my physical strengths. The fans appreciate players who fight for the team and they see I'm fighting for the club."

He added: "It's always great to score goals. That's especially so with them coming so early after a move. The Middlesbrough supporters have been fantastic to me and I feel really settled already."
