Maloney: Young is a bargain buy

Maloney: Young is a bargain buyShaun Maloney believes Aston Villa winger Ashley Young is already starting to prove he is worth his pricetag.

Young could eventually become Villa's record signing if add ons in the deal struck with Watford in January lift the £8million transfer fee to £9.65 milliion.

But Maloney has seen enough already to be convinced Young will provide excellent value for money ahead of Sunday's home Barclays Premier League clash with leaders Chelsea. And he is optimistic Young has come to terms with the price tag on his head.

under pressure

Maloney said: "I think within the group of lads we knew what a good player Ashley was when he first came to Villa in January.

"I think he was under pressure but this season so far he has been one of our better players. He was outstanding in the last league game against Fulham and it looks like he has come to terms with things.

"I think in this day and age, when you see the money getting spent on players, it looks like Ashley is going to be good value because he is 21. I think everyone knew when he came what a good player he was. He is definitely going to be a good buy by the manager. His best is still ahead of him."
