Coverage details

Steve Evans is set to miss Wales' home Euro 2008 qualifier against Germany on Saturday with an ankle injury.

The Wrexham defender could still make Wednesday's match in Slovakia, but striker Daniel Nardiello has returned to club QPR with a back problem.

Wales boss John Toshack is already without Sunderland defender Danny Collins, who withdrew citing injury.

But Hull City full-back Sam Ricketts has now joined the squad after finishing club duty on Monday night.

Wales face Germany at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday (kick-off 1930 BST) for their group D European Championship 2008 qualifying game.

They also face Slovakia the following Wednesday away in Trnava (kick-off 1530 BST).

Collins has an ankle strain and has opted to stay with Sunderland to allow the injury to settle down, although his withdrawal was not well received by Toshack.

Evans only lasted 17 minutes of Wrexham's 2-0 defeat to Hereford and has been undergoing intensive treatment ever since.

The towering centre-back's problem appears to be a recurrence of the ankle injury that he originally suffered in the last minute of the pre-season friendly at Newtown.

Evans also had further problems with it in the reserve team outing at Airbus UK where he lasted only a few minutes.

"Steve Evans went over on his ankle again, the same injury that he picked up at Newtown," said Wrexham boss Brian Carey.

Toshack has not ruled out calling up players from the Under-21 squad, once they have played against France in Grenoble on Friday.

Some good news issuing from the Wales camp on Tuesday was that captain Craig Bellamy has become a father again.

The West Ham striker missed the friendly in Bulgaria because of his wife's pregnancy and she gave birth to a girl on Monday.
