Charlton sign Mills on loan deal

Charlton Athletic have signed Danny Mills on loan and expect to conclude a similar deal for Reading's Sam Sodje.

Mills, 30, joins from Manchester City and is now in his second spell a The Valley after playing for them from 1998-99 and making 51 appearances.

The former England international has signed for Charlton until the end of the December.

Sodje was set to join Sheffield Wednesday last week, but he is set to join Charlton on a season-long loan.

He made his first appearance of the season in Reading's Carling Cup tie at Swansea on Tuesday.

But the 28-year-old was sent off after picking up two yellow cards.

Out-of-favour Mills has not played for City since 28 August last year, though he spent two months on loan at Championship side Hull later that season.

"The reason we brought Danny Mills to the club is we feel we are lacking a bit of organisation at the back and at times, a little bit of experience," said Addicks boss Alan Pardew.

"We also needed someone, I think, who is aware what this division is about."
